I found this article very intriguing about a family in the Portland area who recycled an entire house. They named their project REX for Reuse Everything eXperiement. In eight months time they proceeded to rebuild the house with the goal of finding new uses for all of the old building materials, except the original plaster which had lead paint in it and couldn't be reused.
