Hood River Real Estate Update

I found this article very intriguing about a family in the Portland area who recycled an entire house.  They named their project REX for Reuse Everything eXperiement. In eight months time they proceeded to rebuild the house with the goal of finding new uses for all of the old building materials, except the original plaster which had lead paint in it and couldn't be reused.  To learn more about this project and see lots of pictures go to REX.

You are in for a real treat when you visit Rejuvenation. Rejuvenation has retail stores in both Portland and Seattle. Be sure and allow yourself plenty of time to see everything. There are so many beautiful things to look at.  From the Stickley furniture, rugs, reproduction lighting fixtures, stained glass, lamps, misc. antiques, to the clawfoot tubs, pedestal sinks, and salvage house parts, you won't be disappointed. If you're in the market for some period style lighting fixtures or vintage hardware this is definately the place to come.

If you have a clawfoot tub in need of refinishing then Stanley Avenue Tub is the place to take it. We have had a couple tubs refinished there with excellent results. The first tub we had refinished was a 5 ft standard clawfoot tub. We also had the legs nickle plated which turned out beautifully. This tub we installed in a 1910 bungalow remodel and it looked great.  We also had a 4 1/2 foot pedestal base tub refinished which we installed in the custom house we built in 2005. This is a rare tub and we were told by Stanley Ave Tub that in their 20+ years of refinishing they hardly ever see a tub this size on a pedestal base.

If you haven't visited Rejuvenation at 1100 SE Grand Ave. in Portland. OR. it's definately worth stopping by. The Portland retail store occupies 38,000 sq. feet on the 1st and 2nd floors of the historic Neustadter Building which was renovated in 1992. For many years the Neustadter Building served as a wholesale flower mart.  Rejuvenation is an amazing place with everything from vintage hardware, reproduction lighting fixtures, rebuilt antique lighting fixtures, Stickly furniture, salvage hardware-wood-plumbing fixtures-windows-etc., and so much more. It's easy to spend a couple hours wandering around, taking it all in and getting ideas. Upstairs you'll find the bargain room with marked down lighting fixtures and more. Store hours are Monday - Saturday: 9am - 6:30pm and Sunday: 11am - 5pm

The NW Solar Expo, one of the nations largest and most comprehensive solar events is being held Friday -Sunday  at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. Residents and business owners, along with solar consultants, designers and installers will have the opportunity to see the latest solar technologies and solutions for families and business in todays market. According to senior energy analysts for the Oregon Department of Energy "Oregon is among the top 10 states in the nation for use of solar energy."

All of the 60 plus workshops are free with admission of $12 (Children under age 12 are Free) The Solar Expo is open from 10-6 Friday and Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.
