April statistics are out for Hood River County home sales. There were 20 home sales in Hood River County for April 2010 compared to 14 home sales in March 2010.  I have compiled this information directly from the RMLS. Bite of the Gorge- April 24, 2010

The Bite of the Gorge is the Arts in Education primary fundraiser. This year it will be held on Saturday April 24 between 6-9 pm at the WAAAM-Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum in Hood River, Oregon.

Many of the Gorge's best restaurants, wineries and breweries will be offering samples of their favorite items.  You will enjoy the sampling in the museum surrounded by antique cars and more. Live music will be provided by the  Old Vine Orchestra. 

Tickets cost $40 and include museum admission, 1 drink ticket and tastes from all participating restaurants. You can purchase tickets at Waucoma Books, HR community Education, Klindt's Booksellers and Collage of the Gorge, as well as at the door.

Stonegate Neighborhood Expert

I have lived in East Stonegate now for over 5 years.  There are about 30 homes in the subdevelopment. Stonegate has two sides in the development; phase one off of Post Canyon Rd. and East Stonegate off of Frankton Rd.  Walking trails connect the two neighborhood sides. Stonegate has four community parks,  walking paths, trees, native habitat area and natural vegetation.

Stonegate is a Planned Unit Development which began in 1989 on the westside of Hood River. Located about 2 miles from town. Stonegate's focus is to maintain and enhance the natural beauty of the site and protect it's views, many homesites include views of Mt. Adams or Mt. Hood. Stonegate is managed by owners through the Stonegate Homeowners Association. Homeowner dues for SHOA are about $450.00 per year and cover snow removal, upkeep of greenspaces and parks, irrigation water and long term maintenance of the community such as road upkeep.

CCR's protect the community with architectural requirements. A high quality of design is encouraged with natural earth tones or muted colors and materials, usable front porches and outdoor living spaces as well as alternative energy technology. Home designs should "focus on front porches" and  "De-emphasize garage doors" from the street view. Fencing is discouraged and rather buffering with native trees and plantings is encouraged.  The Stonegate Community is nearly built out. There are currently only 2 remaining undeveloped lots which are located in East Stonegate. They are currently for sale but not listed on the RMLS.  My husband has designed and we have built two homes in Stonegate. One is currently on the market-3365 sq ft 5 bdrm 4 bath for $725,000. The other one we are currently living in but may be putting it on the market this summer. It is 2180 sq ft, prairie style with 3 bdrms, 2.5 baths and an office. We put a lot of special features and artistic design into our homes. My husband is also on the Stonegate Architectural Review Board.

Currently there are seven homes for sale in the Stonegate community. Five homes are located in East Stonegate and two in West Stonegate.

Historic Hood River Middle School

                                                                                 The Hood River Middle School was originally built as the Hood River High School in 1927. The brick building is unique in its formal Jacobethan (collegiate gothic) style. It has gable parapets, terracotta trim, finials, carved detail and arched openings. It also enjoys spectacular views of Mt. Adams.

In 1927 the school was built for $155,329. More recently the Hood River Middle school underwent a $2.8 million remodel and addition which was done to preserve the historic character of the structure.

The auditorium is one of the most loved features of the school by many. With it's vintage chandeliers, fir flooring, hand painted mural and quaint wooden seats with built in hat holders beneath, many community events have enjoyed the stage here, including music such as the popular Trail Band at Christmas time.
