The Columbia River Gorge is a region located in both Oregon and Washington divided by the Columbia River. It starts just past Troutdale which is east of Portland and continues about 85 miles. The scenery through the gorge is spectacular with many micro climates along the way from "rain forest" to "high desert" and in between. If you are interested in moving to the Columbia Gorge area I have lived here since 1985 and know the market well. I specialize in Hood River real estate. I also sell Skamania County real estate, The Dalles real estate and Klickitat County real estate. I am a member of the Mid Columbia Board of Realtors, Oregon Assn of Realtors, and National Assn of Realtors. I especially like to help people find exactly what they're looking for and I work very hard doing that.

Located in the Columbia River just downstream of Mosier, Oregon and approximately four miles east of Hood River at River Mile 174 is an island which is often referred to as Chicken Charlie's Island. Eighteen Mile Island gained this name from the man who resided on the island from 1915 until his death in 1963. Apparently Charles Reither preferred the seclusion of this river island to life ashore. It is believed that he raised chickens on the island, thus "Chicken Charlie's Island". There is one house located on the island. It has been for sale at different times during the past 15 years. You can best view this island when you are driving west on I84 from Mosier to Hood River.
