The NW Solar Expo, one of the nations largest and most comprehensive solar events is being held Friday -Sunday  at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. Residents and business owners, along with solar consultants, designers and installers will have the opportunity to see the latest solar technologies and solutions for families and business in todays market. According to senior energy analysts for the Oregon Department of Energy "Oregon is among the top 10 states in the nation for use of solar energy."

All of the 60 plus workshops are free with admission of $12 (Children under age 12 are Free) The Solar Expo is open from 10-6 Friday and Saturday and 10-4 on Sunday.

A family in the Portland Oregon Metro area that makes the median income ($63,800 in 2007 according to HUD) cannot afford to purchase a median priced home in the area ($295,000 in June).  According to a formula from the National Assn of Realtors, a median income family in the Portland Metro area can only make up 88% of a monthly mortgage payment with a 20% down payment and a 30 year fixed rate.  The RMLS began tracking data in 1994 and this is the lowest affordability rate recorded since that time. However, changes to the way HUD calculates median income may be affecting this.
